The Federal Government has enjoined Nigerians, especially students, to patronise Electronic Books.
The Minister of Education, Malam Adamu Adamu, gave the adivce during the 7th Book Fair, organised by the Nigerian Book Fair Trust (NBFT), Northern Zone, Kano.
The fair focused on simulating the provision and distribution of books, as well as making books, especially digital ones readily available to the general public.
The minister, who was represented by the registrar, Librarians' Registration Council of Nigeria, Dr. Victoria Okojie, said that since 21st century, Information and Communications Technology had changed the way things were done; hence Nigerians should pay close attention to eBooks.
He, however, said the anxiety that eBooks would see the extinction of the print books was unfounded, but that print and eBooks would continue to complement each other in Nigeria.
"The eBook is definitely here to stay. I, therefore, call on the eBook trade sector to examine the eBook, embrace it, be a part of it, own it and drive its future direction. The eBook is yet another golden opportunity for Nigeria to showcase best practices and leadership in Africa," the minister said.
