The need for young learners to embrace Information Technology (IT) and all its positive effects despite their career choices, sums up the discourse at the yearly “Continuing Education and Career Counselling Fair,” of a prime girls' college in Lagos.
The programme, targeted at providing students with adequate
information that would guide them in their career choice was attended by
students from select secondary schools in Lagos.
The speakers, in their remarks, affirmed that emergence of IT has
brought significant improvement in the way things are done; adding that
deep technological knowledge by individuals will accelerate national and
individual growth.
While stressing that there is a technological aspect to all disciplines, the group urged participants to maximise the immense benefits inherent in technology in addition to their chosen career.
According to Technology Manager, Manufacturing and Telecommunications
Enterprise Business, Oracle Corporation, Mrs. Titilayo Akindunni, who
narrated her success story to the audience, “No matter your choice of
career in life, you need to be IT savvy. It gives you an edge over your
peers and it launches you on a successful platform. Countries that
understand this incorporated IT advantages in their teaching and
learning model, while others are living in the dark due to poor IT
knowledge.”
For the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Descasio Limited, Mr. Dele
Nedd, “Technology cuts across all disciplines and has many
opportunities. There are new technological jobs that were not in
existence 10 years ago, but today technology has made it possible. Its
human and national benefits are vast and you must therefore, while
identifying your skills, passion, think technology and think
entrepreneurial. Use the internet wisely, as there are tons of
scholarships out there.”
However, Director of the college, Mrs. Funke Fowler-Amba, had earlier
informed that the essence of the programme was to among others expose
the students to successful individuals who will through their
experiences mentor them on fruitful career journey.
