The Redeemed Christian Church of God has
called on corporate organisations and Nigerians of goodwill to support
the country’s education sector.
The church said there were a lot of
children in remote areas who did not go to school because there was none
in their communities.
The wife of the RCCG, Region 11, Pastor
Bola Kpandei, spoke on Monday while briefing the press about the
church’s school programme slated for Friday, March 10 and Saturday,
March 11, 2017.
The two-day event, themed ‘Mastering the times’, will hold simultaneously in all the 25 regions of the church nationwide.
All the 19 schools of the church under
Region 11 will, however, converge on the church’s regional headquarters
at Jakande bus stop, in the Lekki area of Lagos State.
Kpandei, while enumerating the different
outreaches of the region to the slums in the community, said there was
the need for more intervention to complement government’s efforts.
She said, “For instance, we have a N50
per day school in the Ikate Waterside area. The purpose of the school is
to evangelise the communities and show them the love of Christ. The
church bears the cost of paying teachers and the day-to-day running of
the school.
“I want to implore corporate
organisations to also join in the good work. The population of Nigeria
is much and that is why the government cannot do it alone. When private
individuals also join, things will be a lot better. Some are, however,
doing this silently.”
She said the purpose of the programme
was to raise children in the fear of God so they could impact positively
on the society in the future.
While lamenting the decadence in the
society, she urged parents and guardians not to neglect their duty of
bringing up their children with the Word of God.
Kpandei said the church’s programme
would feature talent discovery displays, parade of schools, art and
science exhibitions, among others, adding that the wife of the Governor
of Lagos State, Bolanle Ambode, would be a guest of honour.
Another leader in the region, Pastor
Tunde Daniel and Pastor Eikore Valentine, said some of the participating
pupils would be given scholarships and gifts.
