Owing to the imperativeness of mathematics education to national
development, the National Examination Council (NECO) has reiterated its
commitment towards ensuring continuous success of Cowbellpedia Secondary
School Mathematics TV Quiz show.
Speaking during the formal launch of the 2017 edition of the
competition in Lagos, Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Charles Uwakwe,
said, “We are here to reiterate our commitment to ensuring the
continuous success of the competition. The registrar is ready to put all
he has to ensure the success of the contest. Due to immense benefit of
mathematics education to national development, in the next couple of
weeks, we shall be discussing what can be done to further enhance the
competition with the Federal Ministry of Education.
Uwakwe, represented by the Director, Quality Assurance of the
council, Dr. Ikechukwu Anyanwu, noted that the initiative has been of
tremendous benefits to mathematics education in the country as past
winners and participants have showed excellent performance in NECO
examinations.
He said this year, the thrust is to provide a credible platform that
will identify and reward excellence in the subject among junior and
senior secondary school students in Nigeria.
Thiry noted that across the globe, investment in education has
assumed an entirely new frontier, adding that even governments and
corporate organisations have come to realise that building capacity in
Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses
represents the driving force for development in the 21st century.
While entry into this competition is free for both public and private
schools, contestants are required to register online or pick up a
