NECO offers to boost Mathematics Quiz

Owing to the imperativeness of mathematics education to national development, the National Examination Council (NECO) has reiterated its commitment towards ensuring continuous success of Cowbellpedia Secondary School Mathematics TV Quiz show.

Speaking during the formal launch of the 2017 edition of the competition in Lagos, Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Charles Uwakwe, said, “We are here to reiterate our commitment to ensuring the continuous success of the competition. The registrar is ready to put all he has to ensure the success of the contest. Due to immense benefit of mathematics education to national development, in the next couple of weeks, we shall be discussing what can be done to further enhance the competition with the Federal Ministry of Education.


Uwakwe, represented by the Director, Quality Assurance of the council, Dr. Ikechukwu Anyanwu, noted that the initiative has been of tremendous benefits to mathematics education in the country as past winners and participants have showed excellent performance in NECO examinations.
Managing Director of Promasidor Nigeria Limited, sponsor of the initiative, Mr. Olivier Thiry, while announcing the opening of entries expressed the company’s resolve to help improve the standard of education in the country, particularly in the teaching and learning of mathematics. 
 
He said this year, the thrust is to provide a credible platform that will identify and reward excellence in the subject among junior and senior secondary school students in Nigeria.
Thiry noted that across the globe, investment in education has assumed an entirely new frontier, adding that even governments and corporate organisations have come to realise that building capacity in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) courses represents the driving force for development in the 21st century.

While entry into this competition is free for both public and private schools, contestants are required to register online or pick up a registration form at ministries of education nationwide.
